We never sell your number. How we use it

Most couples ask how long they need. The honest answer is that the date that governs your training is not the wedding, it is the final fitting, and that is usually two to three weeks earlier. Everything below works back from there.

TL;DR

Start 12 to 16 weeks before the final fitting, not the wedding day. Twelve weeks at two sessions a week is 24 sessions each, enough to change how clothes sit and how you carry yourself, and not enough to change your frame. Buddy rates on our roster start from S$45 per person and each coach sets their own, confirmed in writing before you book. Training as a pair is the part with evidence behind it: in the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing, people were far more likely to become active when their partner did too.

Key facts

  • Work back from the final fitting, usually 2 to 3 weeks before the day, not from the wedding date
  • 12 to 16 weeks is the usual block; 24 sessions each at twice a week
  • Buddy rates on our roster start from S$45 per person, and each coach sets their own
  • In the JAMA Internal Medicine study of 3,722 couples, 67% of men became newly active when their partner did, against 26% when the partner did not
  • HealthHub puts a sustainable rate of weight change well below what a 6-week crash plan promises
  • Sessions run at your condo gym, your HDB flat or a park; 24 hours' notice to reschedule

How long before the wedding should you start?

Twelve to sixteen weeks before the final fitting, which is not the same date as the wedding. Most boutiques do the last alteration two to three weeks out, so a 16-week runway to the day is really a 13-week runway to the body the tailor measures. Ask your boutique for the fitting date first, then count backwards.

In our own coaching experience the couples who leave it to six weeks are the ones who ask for a crash plan, and six weeks is enough to feel stronger and to sleep better without being enough to change a silhouette. If six weeks is what you have, train for the honeymoon rather than the photographs and you will be happier with both.

What actually changes in 12 weeks, and what does not?

Posture, conditioning and how clothes sit change in 12 weeks. Frame does not. A beginner training twice a week for 24 sessions can expect noticeably better shoulder position, a stronger back, and enough work capacity to stand for a nine-hour banquet without seizing up.

What a 12-week block realistically moves, based on what we see with beginners
What you wantMoves in 12 weeks? What it depends on
Standing and shoulder posture in photosYes, usually the first thing to changeUpper-back and thoracic work twice a week
Arms and shoulders in a sleeveless gown or fitted jacketPartlyConsistency plus enough protein; 24 sessions is the floor
Stamina for a full day on your feetYesConditioning work, not just lifting
A large change in body weightNot safelyHealthHub's guidance on healthy weight sets a slower pace than 12 weeks allows
Skeletal frame, height, bone structureNoNothing changes this, and anyone who says otherwise is selling

What does a 12-week block cost for two people?

It depends on the coach, and the number you should ask for is the per-person rate. Buddy rates on our roster start from S$45 per person against S$80-S$130 for most 1-to-1 sessions, each coach publishes their own, and packs of 10, 15 or 20 sessions take 5%, 10% or 15% off that coach's rate. We confirm the figure in writing before you book.

Two things people forget to budget. A condo gym is free to you and a public gym is not, and Sport Singapore publishes ActiveSG entry rates so you can add that per head per session. And a 12-week block at twice a week is 24 sessions each, so ask whether your pack covers the whole run or whether you will be buying a second one three weeks before the wedding. More on how packs work for two in sharing a package.

How do dress and suit fittings change the plan?

They set the deadline and they cap how much you should still be changing. Once a gown has been taken in, losing another three kilos means paying for another alteration, and gaining it back means the same. Tell your coach the fitting date at the start.

  • Before the first fitting: this is the window for actual change. Train hard, eat properly, expect the numbers to move.
  • Between fittings: hold steady. Keep training, stop chasing the scale, and let the tailor work to a stable measurement.
  • Final two weeks: maintain. Lighter loads, same frequency, no new exercises and nothing that leaves you sore in a photograph.
  • The week of: two easy sessions or none. Sleep is the variable that shows on camera.

Does training help how you look in the photos?

Mostly through posture, and that is worth saying plainly because it is the least glamorous answer. A photographer shoots you standing, and twelve weeks of rowing, pulling and thoracic work changes how you stand more visibly than it changes your weight.

The other half is stamina. A Singapore banquet runs long, the march-in is on your feet and the pre-wedding shoot can be four hours outdoors in the heat. Couples who have done conditioning look better in the last hour of the day than couples who only lifted, and the last hour is when most of the candid photographs get taken.

Does training together beat training separately?

The evidence points that way. The largest study on this, published in JAMA Internal Medicine in 2015, followed 3,722 married and cohabiting couples in the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing and found that 67% of men and 66% of women became newly physically active when their partner did too, against 26% and 24% when the partner stayed inactive.

Two limits worth holding onto. The participants were aged 50 and over, so this is not evidence about a couple in their late twenties specifically, and it measures whether people started, not how well they did. It is a good reason to book one slot for the two of you rather than two separate ones. How the shared hour actually runs is on the couples training page.

Should you crash diet before the wedding?

No, and the reason is practical rather than moral. A hard cut in the last month costs you the strength you spent three months building, makes you irritable during the most logistically stressful weeks of your life, and tends to rebound before the honeymoon.

HealthHub's guidance on healthy weight describes a slower pace than any six-week wedding plan advertises, and both the NHS and the American College of Sports Medicine put the weekly activity target at a level you can hold rather than a level you survive. Stop if you are dizzy, not sleeping, or losing your grip strength in sessions; those are signs to eat more, not to train harder. This page is general information and not medical advice, and a coach cannot clear you to train on a restricted diet. Ask your doctor first if you have a condition or are on medication.

Where do couples train before a wedding?

Your condo gym, your HDB flat, or a park, whichever survives contact with wedding admin. Condo gyms win for couples because the gym is downstairs and the calendar is already shared; check the MCST guest rules for external trainers first, because some estates require the management office to sign a coach in.

In the last month, proximity beats everything. Couples who booked a coach across the island in week two start cancelling in week eleven, when the guest list and the seating chart are eating every evening. A coach who comes to your block, as described on the home training page, is the one still training you the week before. Terms like progressive overload and RPE are defined in the fitness glossary.

Frequently asked

How many months before a wedding should a couple start training?

Three to four months before the final fitting, not the wedding day. That is usually 12 to 16 weeks of two sessions each per week, or 24 sessions per person. Six weeks still helps with energy and posture but will not change how a gown or a suit fits.

Is pre-wedding personal training charged per person?

Yes. Couples rates on our roster are quoted per head and start from S$45 per person, against S$80-S$130 for most 1-to-1 sessions. Each coach sets their own rate and it is confirmed in writing before you book. Packs of 10, 15 or 20 take 5%, 10% or 15% off.

Can we train together if only one of us cares about the wedding photos?

Yes, and it is common. The coach runs the same movement patterns at different loads and different intensities, so one of you can chase a visible change while the other trains for general strength. Neither goal slows the other down.

What should we do in the final week before the wedding?

Two easy sessions or none, and nothing new. Keep the movements you already know, drop the load, and protect your sleep. Soreness from a hard session three days out shows in how you stand and move on the day.

Do you offer a bridal package for two?

We sell the same packs to everyone: 10, 15 or 20 sessions at 5%, 10% or 15% off your coach's rate, quoted per person. There is no separate wedding price, which usually works out cheaper than a branded bridal bundle. The consult is free.

Can we train at our condo gym before the wedding?

Usually yes, and it is the most common choice. Check your MCST rules for external trainers first, because some estates need the management office to register the coach. If the estate does not allow it, the session moves to your unit or a nearby park.
