Can two people split one package?
Not in the way most people mean. A pack of 10 is a 5%, 10% or 15% discount attached to a coach's hourly rate, so a couple buying a 10-pack is buying ten shared hours that both of you attend, at the per-person couples rate. It is not ten sessions to be divided into five each.
The distinction matters because it changes the price by roughly double, and in our own coaching experience it is the single most common misunderstanding in a first message. Some Singapore studios do sell a genuine shared bundle where one pot of sessions is drawn down by either partner. If that is what you want, ask for it in exactly those words, because it is a different product.
Is the quoted rate per person or for the pair?
Per person, on our roster and on most others. A coach quoting S$90 for a couples session almost always means S$90 each, so S$180 for the hour. Ask the question directly, in writing, because the ambiguity runs in both directions and coaches get caught by it too.
| What you are told | What it usually means | What two people pay for the hour |
|---|---|---|
| "S$90 for couples" | S$90 per person | S$180 |
| "S$90 per pax" | Unambiguous: per person | S$180 |
| "S$45 each" | Unambiguous: per person | S$90 |
| "S$150 for the two of you" | A session price, not a head price | S$150 |
| A 10-pack at 5% off | 5% off whichever of the above applies | The discounted rate, times two people |
What happens when only one of you can make it?
Ask before you pay, because the answer varies by coach and it is the clause that causes arguments. The three common arrangements are that the session runs 1-to-1 at the higher solo rate, that it runs at the couples rate as a goodwill gesture, or that it is rescheduled with 24 hours' notice.
- Runs as 1-to-1 at the solo rate: fair to the coach, and the partner who turned up gets a better session. Expect the difference to be charged.
- Runs at the couples rate: some coaches do this once or twice as goodwill. Do not assume it, and do not build a schedule around it.
- Rescheduled: the usual answer with 24 hours' notice. Late cancellations normally still consume the session.
- Split into two shorter solo slots: rare, and only worth asking if your calendars genuinely never align.
In our own coaching experience this is the question couples wish they had asked, not the price. Whatever the answer, get it in the same message as the rate.
How many sessions should a couple actually buy first?
Start with the free consult and one paid session, then buy the pack. Ten sessions at twice a week is only five weeks, so a 12-week run needs more than one pack; buying the largest pack first to chase the 15% looks efficient and is the reason people end up locked to a coach who was not the right fit.
For frequency, the World Health Organization and the American College of Sports Medicine both put muscle-strengthening work at two or more days a week for adults, and HealthHub's 150-minutes guidance says the same in Singapore terms. Two coached sessions a week meets that, which is why most couples land on a 10-pack every five weeks rather than one large pack a year.
Want this planned for you?
Tell us how often you would train and who is coming. We will send the per-head rate, what a pack takes off it, and the rule for weeks when only one of you can make it, in writing before you pay anything.
Do packages expire, and can they be transferred?
Expiry and transfer are set per coach, and you should have both in writing before money moves. We publish the discount ladder, not the expiry, because the coach sets the terms of their own pack and we are not going to state a rule on their behalf that they have not agreed to.
Three questions cover it. Does the pack expire, and on what date. If one of you drops out halfway, can the remaining partner use the balance 1-to-1, and at what rate. And if you move estate or the coach stops taking your area, what happens to the unused sessions. Ask all three in one message, and keep the reply.
Are there costs on top of the package?
Sometimes, and they are all venue costs rather than coaching costs. Training in your HDB flat or your condo gym adds nothing, though it is worth checking your MCST rules for external trainers before you buy a 20-pack on the assumption the estate gym is available. Sport Singapore publishes ActiveSG entry rates, and at a public gym both of you pay entry on top of the session, every session.
A coach travelling well outside their usual area may add a travel charge, and a private studio rented by the hour is billed to you. None of that is hidden on our side: the pricing page carries the ladder, the what is included page covers the rest, and the cost guide sets the market context. Terms like semi-private are defined in the fitness glossary.
