Why train at home when Toa Payoh is so central?

Because central still means a trip. Toa Payoh to Novena or Orchard is under ten minutes on the train, but the studio at the other end adds the walk, the wait for a rack and the return, and a 45-minute session becomes 90 minutes of your evening.

The Sport Centre at Lorong 6 is also closed for redevelopment until 2030, which has thinned the local public-gym options. A coach who comes to the flat in Lorong 4 or the condo gym at Trevista fixes both problems. Home personal training is the same session without the trip.

On the pack ladder most coaches use, packs of 5 sessions are at the full rate and packs of 10, 15 or 20 sessions take 5, 10 or 15 percent off. The cost guide explains the rest.

Can you train at Toa Payoh Town Park?

Not until it reopens. NParks closed Toa Payoh Town Park for redevelopment on 1 February 2024, with completion expected in 2030, and points visitors to Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park in the meantime. That is where outdoor sessions go now: open lawns for circuits and river paths for intervals, in Bishan, the next town north.

For distance work a coach uses the Kallang Park Connector on the Braddell edge, which runs flat along the river to the same park. The estate's fitness corners and void decks cover short sessions close to home.

What do Toa Payoh condo gyms tend to have?

The condos along Lorong 1 and the Braddell edge were mostly built between the late 1990s and the 2010s, so gyms vary: Trevista and Gem Residences have a dumbbell rack, a cable station and a Smith machine or rack.

The older towers have a few machines and a treadmill. Your coach checks the room before the first session, and where it is thin we match you to someone whose own kit suits it. See condo gym personal training for how a full programme runs in a small room.
