What does a boxing personal trainer do?
They teach you to punch properly and then make you work. A session moves from stance and footwork to the basic punches, then to combinations thrown at focus mitts or pads the coach holds and moves, in timed rounds with short rests.
Pad work is the core of it: the coach calls the combination, you throw it, and they correct your guard, your feet and your breathing between rounds. A session usually finishes with conditioning, such as core work or intervals.
This is boxing for fitness and skill, not fighting. None of our coaches' profiles lists sparring. If you want to spar or compete, you need a boxing gym with a ring and partners matched to your size and level, and a coach there who runs it. You can start one to one, learn the basics privately and move to a gym later.
Who teaches boxing pad work on this page?
Heyong, a former competitive amateur boxer, and Vanessa, who uses boxing and Muay Thai pad work in her strength programmes, are the coaches on this page. Here is what each one's own record lists:
| Coach | On their own record | 1-to-1 rate |
|---|---|---|
| Heyong | Title: Strength & Boxing Coach. NASM Certified Personal Trainer. Boxing coach (ex-competitive). 5 years coaching. A former competitive amateur boxer with over 10 years in the sport | S$150 to S$180 |
| Vanessa | NCSF Certified Personal Trainer. Her profile lists functional strength training plus boxing and Muay Thai pad work | S$170, transport included |
They suit different people. Heyong is the one with a competitive boxing background. Her title is Strength & Boxing Coach, and her profile says she loves helping women build muscle.
Vanessa uses boxing and Muay Thai pad work inside strength and body recomposition programmes. Both are women. Other coaches who list boxing or kickboxing are on our trainers page. Both charge more than most coaches on our roster. Each one publishes their own rate.
What happens in a boxing session?
- 01Wraps and warm-upHand wraps go on first to support the wrists and knuckles, then skipping or footwork drills and mobility for the shoulders and hips.
- 02TechniqueStance, guard and one punch at a time, in front of a mirror or shadowboxing, until it is clean without power.
- 03Pad roundsCombinations on the coach's pads in timed rounds. The coach adds slips, rolls and movement as you improve.
- 04ConditioningCore, legs or intervals, depending on your goal and what the coach has planned for the week.
- 05Cool-downEasy movement and stretching for the shoulders, chest and hips.
Your first session is mostly the first two steps. A coach will ask about your shoulders, wrists, back and any old injuries before you throw anything hard. You need your own hand wraps and a pair of gloves sized for pad work. Ask your coach what they bring and what to buy, before you buy it.
Here is how a beginner's first four weeks might build at one or two sessions a week. It is our coaching approach, an example of the order skills are added in, not a fixed programme. Your coach sets the real pace after the first session.
| Week | Focus | What you do |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Stance and the straight punches | Wraps, stance, guard and footwork. The jab and the cross, shadowboxing first, then slowly on the pads |
| 2 | Hooks and short combinations | Lead and rear hooks added. Two and three punch combinations on the pads, in short rounds with full rests |
| 3 | Defence and movement | Slips and rolls against the coach's pad, stepping in and out, and combinations thrown while moving |
| 4 | Rounds and conditioning | Longer pad rounds with the coach calling combinations, then core or interval work. A short review of what to tidy up next |
Where can you do boxing training in Singapore?
Pad work needs floor space more than equipment, so it can happen at home, in a condo gym or at a boxing gym. Heyong and Vanessa both come to your home or condo gym, mostly in central Singapore, and Heyong also lists Kovan and Serangoon. Sparring needs a boxing gym. Here is what each venue gives you:
- 01At homeEnough clear floor for you and the coach to move around each other, such as an HDB living room with the furniture pushed back. Heyong and Vanessa both list home sessions.
- 02In a condo gymMore room and a mirror. Check the MCST's rules on outside trainers and on noise before the first booking.
- 03At a boxing gymA heavy bag, a ring and other people. That is where sparring and competition training happen.
| Coach | Areas they list | Venues they list |
|---|---|---|
| Heyong | Kovan, Serangoon, Dhoby Ghaut, Chinatown, Clarke Quay, Esplanade, Downtown, City Hall | Your home, condo or private gym, commercial gym, online |
| Vanessa | Orchard, Novena, Toa Payoh, Bishan, Newton, Bugis, City Hall, Chinatown and other central areas | Your home, condo or private gym, commercial gym |

How much does a personal boxing trainer cost in Singapore?
Heyong charges S$150 to S$180 for a 60-minute session, and Vanessa S$170 with transport included, as her profile says. Each coach sets their own rate. Confirm yours in writing before you book. Both are above our roster as a whole, where sessions start from S$50 and most cost S$80 to S$130 (measured October 2026).
After a first session at 10% off, both sell training in packs of 5, 10, 15 or 20, not single sessions. For a gym comparison, Legends Fight Sport, with gyms at Clarke Quay and Katong, charges S$120 (coach) to S$140 (head coach) a single session, S$1,000 to S$1,200 for 10, at its gyms:
| Provider | Per session | 10 sessions | Shared, per person per session |
|---|---|---|---|
| Heyong (Fit Titans), at your home or condo | S$150 to S$180 | From S$1,425 | S$90 for two, S$50 for 3 to 4 |
| Vanessa (Fit Titans), at your home or condo | S$170, transport included | S$1,615 | S$130 for two, S$120 for 3 to 4 |
| Legends coach, Clarke Quay or Katong gym | S$120 a single session | S$1,000 (S$100 each) | 2 to 1: S$180 for the pair |
| Legends head coach, Clarke Quay or Katong gym | S$140 a single session | S$1,200 (S$120 each) | 2 to 1: S$200 for the pair |
Heyong and Vanessa sell 1-to-1 packs on our ladder: 5 sessions at the full rate, then 10, 15 or 20 at 5%, 10% or 15% off, and your first session is 10% off.
So 10 sessions with Heyong at S$150 come to S$1,425, and with Vanessa to S$1,615, the 10-session pack at 5% off shown in the table. Shared rates in the table are per person per session, except Legends' 2 to 1 rate, which is for the pair.
Training with a friend, Heyong charges S$90 a head and Vanessa S$130 a head, and a small group of 3 to 4 pays S$50 a head with Heyong or S$120 a head with Vanessa. Pair and small-group rates are per person per session, confirmed in writing before you book.
Legends also says personal sessions outside its gyms can be arranged, without a published price. Legends is one boxing gym, not a survey of the market: we have not checked other gyms' rates for this page, so ask any gym for its per-session figure in writing.
If a group class is enough, Legends' class rates on the same day were S$45 for a drop-in, S$350 for 10 classes valid 3 months, or S$250 a month on a 3-month membership. A class is cheaper per hour. A personal trainer watches only you, comes to you, and fits your schedule.
Twice a week is about 8 sessions a month: S$1,200 at S$150, S$1,360 at S$170, before pack discounts. Training with a friend brings the per-head price down. See buddy training. If the coach is not right for you, tell us and we will try to match you with another, where one is free.
Is boxing training safe, and when do you need clearance?
Pad work with a coach does not involve being hit, but it still carries risk. Wrists and knuckles take the impact of every punch, which is what wraps and well-fitted gloves are for. Shoulders take the repetition, and fast twisting loads the lower back.
Sparring adds blows to the head. SingHealth describes concussion as a mild traumatic head injury that can happen in contact sports, and says not to return to your sport until you have had a proper medical evaluation.
- See a doctor first if you have a heart condition, chest pain or fainting on exertion, or blood pressure that is not under control.
- Get a doctor's view first if you are pregnant, have had surgery recently, or have had a concussion.
- See a physiotherapist first for a shoulder, wrist, hand or back injury that hurts before you train.
- Stop and tell your coach if a punch causes sharp pain in the hand or wrist, or if you feel dizzy.
Before you start, the PAR-Q+ Collaboration's PAR-Q+ questionnaire checks your readiness for more activity and tells you when to see a doctor first. Nothing here replaces a doctor's assessment.
What should you ask a boxing trainer before you book?
Ask what their boxing background is, what kit they bring and how they will protect your shoulders, wrists and back, with these five questions:
- What is your boxing background, and can I see the certificate or record behind it?
- Do you bring pads and spare gloves, and what should I buy?
- How do you plan around my shoulders, wrists or back?
- How much of each session is technique, how much is pads and how much is conditioning?
- Is there a rate for two if a friend joins?

Boxing training questions.
How much does a personal boxing trainer cost in Singapore?
Heyong charges S$150 to S$180 for a 60-minute session at your home or condo gym, and Vanessa S$170. The first session is 10% off, and after it both sell training in packs of 5, 10, 15 or 20. Heyong confirms where your rate sits in her band in writing before you pay. At Legends Fight Sport's gyms, 1-to-1 coaching was S$120 (coach) to S$140 (head coach) a single session, S$1,000 to S$1,200 for 10, checked 30 October 2026.
Do I need boxing experience to start?
No. A first session with a personal trainer starts with stance, guard and one punch at a time, and pad work builds from there. Tell your coach about any shoulder, wrist or back problems before you begin.
Will I have to spar?
No. None of our coaches' profiles lists sparring, and pad work does not involve being hit. If you want to spar or compete later, that happens at a boxing gym with matched partners and a coach who runs sparring.
Can a boxing trainer come to my condo?
Yes. Heyong and Vanessa both list condo or private gyms and home sessions on their own profiles. Check your condo's rules on outside trainers and noise first, and clear enough floor for both of you to move.
Can I choose a female or male boxing coach?
Heyong and Vanessa, both women, teach boxing pad work on this page. Other coaches who list boxing or kickboxing are on our trainers page. Heyong, a former competitive amateur boxer, trains around Kovan, Serangoon and central Singapore. Vanessa uses boxing and Muay Thai pad work in her strength programmes, mostly in central areas.
What equipment do I need for boxing training at home?
Hand wraps and a pair of gloves for pad work, and enough clear floor to move. The coach holds the pads. Ask your coach what they bring before you buy anything, and whether a heavy bag is worth it for you.
