The first question every couple asks is whether the rate is per person. It is, and it is lower than 1-to-1. The second question is what happens when one of you is fitter, or injured. Both are answered below, along with how to book a trial.

TL;DR

Couples training is a buddy session: two people, one coach, one hour, and the rate is quoted per person. On our roster buddy rates start from S$45 per person, against S$80-S$130 for most 1-to-1 sessions; each coach publishes their own. Different fitness levels are normal and handled with separate loads at the same stations. One partner with an injury trains a scaled version while the other trains normally. The first consult is free and the first paid session is covered by a re-match or refund within 7 days.

Key facts

  • Buddy and small-group rates are per person and start from S$45 on our roster
  • Most 1-to-1 sessions are S$80-S$130; each coach publishes their own rate
  • Packs of 10, 15 or 20 sessions take 5%, 10% or 15% off that coach's rate
  • Different fitness levels are handled with separate loads at shared stations
  • Free first consult; re-match or refund within 7 days of the first paid session
  • Sessions at home, your condo gym or a park; 24 hours' notice to reschedule

Is the rate per person or per session?

Per person. Every buddy or couples rate on our roster is quoted per head, and it is lower than that coach's 1-to-1 rate because you share the hour. Buddy and small-group rates start from S$45 per person; most 1-to-1 sessions are S$80-S$130. Each coach sets and publishes their own numbers, so the answer for the coach you want is on their profile and on the pricing page, and we confirm it in writing before you book.

The market context, and why two people sharing is the biggest discount in personal training, is on the buddy training page and in the cost guide.

How does a session work when one of you is fitter?

The same way it works in every couples session, because one of you is always fitter. The coach runs the same movement patterns for both of you at different loads, reps and rest. You do a goblet squat with 8kg while your partner does 20kg; you both do a row, a press and a carry. What you share is the pattern, the time and the coach. What you do not share is the weight on the dumbbell.

Where it stops working is a very large gap in a very technical lift. If one of you wants a heavy barbell block and the other has never squatted, the coach will say so and suggest a few 1-to-1 sessions first for the beginner, then back to couples. That is the honest answer, not an upsell.

What if one partner has an injury?

The session still runs. The injured partner tells the coach, gets clearance from a doctor or physio if it is more than a niggle, and trains a scaled version: upper body and core while a knee settles, lower body and carries while a shoulder does. The other partner trains normally. If the injury is recent, painful or undiagnosed, that person should see a physio before a coach and may do better 1-to-1 for a few weeks, as described on the injury rehab page. Red flags such as numbness, weakness or pain that wakes you at night are a doctor's call, not a coach's.

Does training as a couple actually help you stick to it?

The evidence says a partner's behaviour matters. A 2015 study of older couples in the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing, published in JAMA Internal Medicine, found that people were markedly more likely to become physically active when their partner did too. The mechanism in a couples session is simpler than the statistics: the appointment is shared, so cancelling means telling the person you live with that you are the reason the session is off.

  • Shared appointment: the slot is in both calendars and the coach is already on the way.
  • Shared meals: the hawker and home-cooking choices change for both of you at once.
  • Shared progress: you see each other's numbers move, which is its own motivation.
  • Shared cost: one PayNow invoice, one pack, one conversation about whether to continue.

There is a second, quieter effect. Couples who train together tend to talk about the plan between sessions, which is where most of the result comes from: the walk after dinner, the extra protein at the hawker centre, the earlier night before a 7am slot. A coach sees each of you for an hour a week. Your partner sees the other 167.

Where do couples sessions happen?

Your condo gym, your living room, or a park. Condo gyms are the most common for couples because the gym is downstairs and the schedule is already shared; check the MCST guest rules first, and if external trainers are restricted the session moves to your unit or a nearby park. HDB couples train in the living room or the void deck early in the morning, or at a park connector before the heat builds. The coach brings bands, dumbbells and a mat. Details on the home training page.

Timing matters as much as place. Couples in the CBD and Tanjong Pagar condos tend to book 6.30am or after 8pm so both calendars survive; couples in Punggol, Sengkang and Tampines book weekend mornings when the gym is empty. Tell us both diaries and we match on schedule as well as goal, because a coach who cannot make your only shared hour is the wrong coach however good they are.

How do you book a couples trial?

  • Message us on WhatsApp with both your goals, your neighbourhood, your schedule and any injuries. The consult is free.
  • We match you to a certified coach (NCSF, ACE, NASM, NSCA, ACSM, WSQ or a sports-science degree) who covers your area and takes couples.
  • We confirm the per-person rate in writing, plus the rule for weeks when only one of you can make it.
  • Book the first paid session at home, your condo gym or a park. If it is the wrong fit, tell us within 7 days and we re-match or refund it, once per client.

When should a couple train separately?

When one of you needs the whole hour: pregnancy and early postpartum, rehab after surgery, a large gap in a technical lift, or when one partner honestly does not want an audience. Some couples split the difference: one couples session a week and one 1-to-1 each. The coach will tell you which they think fits; the answer that costs you more is not automatically the one they will give.

Frequently asked

Is couples personal training charged per person in Singapore?

Yes. Buddy and couples rates on our roster are quoted per person and start from S$45, against S$80-S$130 for most 1-to-1 sessions. Each coach sets their own rate and publishes it on their profile. We confirm the figure in writing before you book, and packs take 5-15% off it.

Can we train together if one of us is much fitter?

Yes. The coach uses the same movement patterns for both of you at different loads, reps and rest, so you share the hour but not the weight. If the gap is very large in a technical lift, a few 1-to-1 sessions for the beginner first, then back to couples, works better.

What happens if one of us cannot make a session?

Agree the rule before you buy the pack. Some coaches run that week as 1-to-1 at a top-up, others keep the couples rate. Give 24 hours' notice to move the whole session at no charge. Get whichever rule applies in writing with the pack.

Can we request a female coach as a couple?

Yes. Tell us when you message and we match for it where the roster allows. It is a common request when one partner is more comfortable with a female coach, or for prenatal work, and it is easier to match at the start than to change later.

Do couples sessions work for beginners?

Yes, and they are often easier to start than training alone. The first session is an assessment for both of you, not a workout to survive. If one of you is a complete beginner and the other is experienced, say so; the coach scales each of you separately. What a first session looks like is on the beginners guide.
